The two protagonists Romeo and Juliet first meet in act 1 scene 3. To show that they are falling in love Shakespeare writes their speech as a sonnet to make it sound more romantic. Romeo and Juliet meet after Romeo gatecrashes the Capulet’s party. Juliet was told to married another man named Paris but Juliet said she was not yet ready.

The marriage is a scene of happiness and bliss, it’s a positive scene. However the scene that follows (Act 3 Sc1) is the complete opposite. It is a scene filled with old hatred, anger and sadness, it’s a negative scene. The contrast is obvious and helps create more dramatic suspense.

Summary: Act 3, scene 1 As they walk in the street under the boiling sun, Benvolio suggests to Mercutio that they go indoors, fearing that a brawl will be unavoidable should they encounter Capulet men.
